THE MEETING OF BARLESTONE PARISH COUNCIL HELD ON
Tuesday 11th December 2007 AT THE
NEW PAVILION, BARLESTONE
PRESENT: Mr. D. Crane, Mr. E.

C.Cllr Ivan Ould
Apologies: B.Cllr Bill Crooks – The Clerk read out his
report to the meeting.
C.Cllr Ould spoke about general issues with relation to Leicestershire
County Council.
The Nailstone Colliery site went to public appeal. There was a good turnout and the decision is
now with the Inspector, this should go to the government in the next week.
Bull in the Oak – there have been further accidents at this junction,
some serious and C.Cllr Ould is still of the opinion there should be a
roundabout there, he hopes to be in touch with the planners before too long.
The proposed roundabout at the Redgate Inn has been shelved for the
moment by the County Council.
The members had discussions regarding local issues.
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting in November
having been circulated were proposed as a true record by Mrs. Richardson,
seconded M.Brotherhood.
2 Matters
Arising
The Chairman had spoken to a representative of
the Football club with regard to pitch marking and was assured that weed killer
was not used.
Community Association – A reply had been
received from the County Council with regard to the community areas and a
number of their queries will be answered.
A copy of the letter sent to the County Council was also sent to the
Charity Commissioners.

Proposed D.Reid, seconded T.Ellul that the
accounts listed be paid.

for discussion
Quotation received Mr. S.P.Brotherhood re speed hump.
Mr. D.J. Irons re speed hump
Prestons – Grounds Maintenance 2008
M.Brotherhood
declared an interest.
The quotations for the speed hump need to be
clarified before a decision can be made.
Proposed E.Hartshorn, seconded P.Enston that
the quotation re Ground Maintenance is accepted, all agreed.
d) Grant Requests
a) First
Responders – after discussion proposed by E.Hartshorn, seconded Mrs.
Richardson that a £500
donation is made to the organisation.
b) Pride
Alarms – it was felt that if a Barlestone resident requested an alarm then the
Parish Council would consider the application.
7 Police
Forum Report
M.Brotherhood attended a meeting where Cutting
Crime was on the main agenda, he handed the paperwork to Mrs. Richardson.
Mrs.Richardson reported that the Crime &
Safety Forum had met the previous evening and that 3 Police Officers were in
attendance.
The Police Surgery had been well attended and
was very successful – there is to be a further surgery in February.
Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for the area
was again discussed but it was felt that more details were required before a
decision could be made.
E.Hartshorn felt that this was a role for
community volunteers.
Playing Field
a) Equipment Required
No meeting has been held yet to discuss this
but we need to obtain a grant form from the Borough.
Cemetery incl Memorial Gardens for Cremated
Remains
a) Cemetery Charges
As above, proposed increases at 5%.
A puddle has developed outside the cemetery
gates and the Highways Dept. will be contacted.
b)
Hedge
St.Giles
Church
yard.
The Chairman will contact the Tree Surgeon
again with regard to the trimming back of the trees and a quotation will be
requested re the cut and laying of the hedge.
May Meadow
a) Boardwalk
This boardwalk has been closed due to inclement
weather and also the fact that it is in need of repair in places, the Clerk to
contact Ibstock fencing.
The Chairman is to enquire about mole draining
of the field area when the weather is suitable.
Wheel
Gillivers (Heard of England Co-op) have painted
the wheel and it was felt sign should be
placed on the hub of the wheel to this effect.
The lighting of the tree was a good event, the
public assembled and carols were sung around the tree.
Warm mince pies and sweets were distributed.
Thanks must go to all who helped with the
lighting of the tree, especially Mr. David Reid and Mr. Ronnie Enston who did a
great job.
