The Girl Guides
The 1st Barlestone Guides are girls between the ages of 10 and 14. They take part in various, fun activities such as Go for It's! where they try things out they haven't done before or want to extend an interest. Like seeing what their parents did (Traditions) or seeing how well they are (Healthy Eating, Fitness) or how well prepared they are (I will Survive, Streetwise) and even how well they can plan things (Parties or Lights, Camera, Action). Crafts, gaining Interest badges, games and working towards their Guide Challenge badges keeps everyone busy while having fun working together. Previous years have seen them fencing, tobogganing, rock climbing and white water rafting. The Guides used to have their own pedal car team and took part in races scheduled across the year. They made the history books when they became the first Guide group to race in the National Scout Car Championships. Each year they go away somewhere together, usually camping or sometimes indoors. This year we are camping at Oaks in Charnwood with other Guides from our Division. We are also gearing up to the launch in September of Girlguiding's Centenary celebrations - 100 years old in 2010 - by taking part in various activities as part of our Change the World project. 'If everyone does a little bit, together we can make a difference' - our Guides have chosen ndcs (national deaf children’s society) and the WWF
