If you have any sort of Medical Emergency, and you dial 999, your call is put through to a Control Centre in Nottingham. Whilst the 999 Operator is taking all the details, and passing them out to the Ambulance Crew which is nearest to you, another operator is checking to see if any First Responders are on duty.
These are a group of volunteer men and women who are fully qualified in First Aid, and give up some of their spare time to be available in cases of emergency. We have one who lives in our village, and several more in the area who are being trained.
The First Responder Operator then phones the nearest volunteer on duty, who gets in his own car and goes to help you. His (or her) job is to render First Aid, and to make you as comfortable as possible until the Paramedics arrive.
So, it may be that, if you do have an emergency. . . .and we all hope that you don't. . . . . ., the first person to arrive to help you, could be the friendly face of someone that you already know !!!!!
Not only that, but the men and women who run the scheme in our area are offering Free 2-hour First Aid sessions aimed at (but not limited to) Parents, Babysitters and other Child Carers. They will come to your home and spend time with you. . . .and all they ask is that you gather several of your friends together and, after the training, you give a small donation to support the scheme and enable their voluntary scheme to continue to supply a valuable service to the local community. If you would like to organise one of these sessions at your home, please contact Pete Whittall at pete@ltas.co.uk or on 01455 290110 or 07974 184532.
