The Village Pump is an independently produced magazine for the communities of Barlestone, Osbaston & Nailstone. The publication was founded by Barlestone Youth Club over 40 years ago.
In the early days it was a simple one or two page newsletter that comprised of an editorial, community news, articles on local ‘celebrities’ and information for residents on forthcoming events such as coffee mornings, jumble sales, etc.
Production waned in the late 1960’s before Barlestone Primary School & Community Centre re-launched a community magazine under the same title in the early 1970’s.
More than 30 years, and over 300 issues later, The Village Pump has become something of an institution within the local community. It’s format and style may have evolved with the passage of time, but it’s overriding aim remains the same, and that is to inform the residents of Barlestone, Osbaston, Nailstone and surrounding villages about community events, groups and societies whilst, at the same time, providing details of services offered by local tradesmen.
